I was in disbelief when I heard a Salvation Army piece played on WRR 101.1.FM in Dallas tonight. It was the mandatory classic piece, The Kingdom Triumphant, by Eric Ball. Dear God, the sacred church music of the Salvation Army was being played on the radio. What a blessing It was almost crying. I was just driving on my way back from a Salvation Army Christmas concert in Dallas, Wind & Rhythm made my day. Please play some more. Include Salvation Army bands from Chicago, New York, Washington DC Atlanta. Let your listeners know the Salvation Army is more than just an organization that helps people. It is the source of brass band and choir music that spreads joy in the middle of much despair.

Hello Luis, thanks for your comment.

Every year at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago I visit with the folks in the Salvation Army booth. We have our own booth and meet some wonderful people.

Their music is awesome and over our 8 years on the air, the various Salvation Army Staff Bands have been heard. Here are a couple links currently active:

These should launch a player for you.

There were two shows that have not been archived (quite awhile ago) Episode 67 and 114 both had content from the Salvation Army organization.

I’m actually working on the playlist for Christmas Day at the moment and have already chosen Carol of the Bells from the Chicago Staff Band’s 2007 recording. It was done by Stephen Bulla who has become a great friend of the show.

Thanks for sending along your thoughts! I love hearing from you.

One last thought. I had the opportunity to play in a Brass Band at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan a few years ago. It was a thrill. We played Lord of All Hopefulness by Kenneth Downie, and In Perfect Peace by him as well. The highlight of that concert was Mountain Song by Philip Sparke! Awesome. Philip has contributed over a dozen CDs to our library. What a great guy.

The story of that 3 day camp is listed above “Brass Band 101”

Wishing you a Holy holiday!
