We all know that classical music is performed all over the world, largely because we’re exposed string orchestras from Europe. Of course that is just a starting point, but thinking of wind bands in Japan, Israel, Germany and Canada isn’t common knowledge. Here in the States, you can go out and hear wonderful American bands in concert but it is truly a treat to be able to hear accomplished wind band music from international ensembles.

Here on Wind & Rhythm, we hear a few ensembles from Europe and Japan, but it takes a festival like WASBE, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles to bring all of these groups together. That happened in July in San Jose, California and our theme this time will be WASBE International where we’ll hear music from just a few of them.
