The Tax Man
The Tax Man
182: They're Back
Sunday, April 15, 2012
Our national anthem, with the words "the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there!", was written during the war of 1812. It started two hundred years ago and this is the bi-centennial.
There is another anniversary that reminds us that our country needs us... at this time of year we have a duty to pay our annual income tax. This tax dates back to the War of 1812 too, although congress didn’t get around to making it happen until the next war, the war between the states in 1861. But the Brits were paying income taxes for the first time in 1812 and our leaders, for some reason, thought it was a good idea.
